Girl Meets World Premiere

On June 27th 2014, the highly anticipated “Girl Meets World” premiered on the Disney Channel.  The series takes place 14 years later after the original cast of “Boy Meets World” leave their home state of Philadelphia to come to New York City. Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her younger brother Auggie (August Maturo), are the daughter and son of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) Matthews and Riley attends John Quincy Adams Middle School in New York City (to “Boy Meets World” fans, sound familiar?).

In the pilot episode, Riley questions who she is and wants to be like her best friend, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter).  Meanwhile, a new student, Lucas (Peyton Meyer) comes to John Quincy Adams Middle School all the way from Texas, and their classmate, Farkle is VERY quirky and preppy (To BMW fans, does that remind you of anyone?).

Cory is now a teacher…. Riley’s history teacher.  Cory gives the class an assignment, which is to write an essay on what the students would fight for.  Throughout the episode, Riley follows Maya’s lead and decide to rebel.  Worried Cory tries to explain to Riley that she is her own person, soon Riley realizes that her father was right and Cory gives Riley a “Ticket” into the world (the ticket is actually a New York City bus and subway pass).

At the end of the episode a VERY familiar and loved person appears, which left me smiling.  The episode overall was amazing and I loved that it had an element of the classic 1993 series, which made me feel nostalgic.

For “Boy Meets World”, there will be some familiar faces throughout the season.  What’s coming up on “Girl Meets World”? Well, see for yourself:
